Influential right-wing podcaster Tucker Carlson, long a critic of U.S. military operations overseas, called on U.S. officials to resist any potential attempt by Trump to launch mass attacks that would kill Iranian civilians.

Raising the specter of the use of a nuclear weapon, Carlson said: "Now it's time to say no, absolutely not, and say it directly to the president, no." The officials should tell the president to "figure out the codes on the football yourself," Carlson said, a reference to the briefcase with the launch codes.

Carlson, in comments on his podcast, also called Trump's Sunday comments to open the "f-in'" Hormuz Strait "evil" and said they were a mockery of Christianity and Islam. In comments to a New York Post reporter, Trump responded that Carlson is "a low IQ person that has absolutely no idea what's going on."

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.), a longtime Trump ally who has become a fierce critic, also spoke out against Trump's actions, calling for the president's removal following his post that "a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again" on Tuesday.

"25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization," Greene said on social media. The 25th Amendment can be invoked by the vice president and a majority of cabinet members, who must submit a written letter to Congress stating that the president is unfit to discharge his or her powers and duties in office.
