Apple stock was coming close to another milestone Wednesday.
Shares of the iPhone maker rose 1% to $343.96, giving the company a market capitalization of more than $5 trillion.
If Apple stock ends the trading session at that level, it will be the first time in the company's history that it has done so, according to Dow Jones Market Data. Apple will need to finish Wednesday at $340.43 or more to notch the milestone.
At last check Wednesday, Apple had a market value of $5.05 trillion. On Tuesday, the stock briefly traded above the $5 trillion market-value level for the first time ever, before retreating. On Monday it again surpassed Nvidia to become the world's most valuable company by market cap. Nvidia stock was down 1.9% to $193.30 Wednesday afternoon, placing its market value at $4.68 trillion.
The iPhone maker is set to report fiscal third-quarter earnings after the closing bell Thursday.
