Microsoft is on course to add nearly $500 billion in market cap today after a 17% stock surge that would be its sharpest gain since 2008.
In afternoon trading, the tech giant had added $484 billion in market cap, which would be the largest one-day gain in market value for any U.S. company on record, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
The record is currently held by Nvidia, which added $440 billion in market cap on April 9, 2025.
Last night, Microsoft reported earnings that beat Wall Street expectations, including a profit increase of 31% and robust cloud growth. Critically, the company stayed cash-flow positive, unlike some other hyperscalers. Meta shares, in contrast, are trading nearly 9% lower after investors pushed the company on how much more it plans to spend on its AI efforts.
