Global e-commerce and auction site eBay reported better-than-expected second-quarter earnings and revenue, and raised its full-year forecast on Wednesday afternoon.
For the second quarter ended June 30, eBay reported adjusted earnings of $1.60 a share, up 14%, on revenue of $3.13 billion, up $404 million or 15%.
Gross merchandise volume of $22.4 billion rose 15%, marking the ninth straight quarter of GMV growth, and surpassed the $21.6 billion analysts expected.
Wall Street was estimating adjusted earnings of $1.50 a share on sales of $3.02 billion, according to FactSet.
"This quarter once again demonstrated our ability to focus on our strategic priorities while still delivering strong growth in operating income and EPS," CEO Jamie Iannone said.
He said the second quarter's "meaningful, broad-based momentum" was driven by continued innovation and focused execution, including the June 30 closing of eBay's acquisition of Depop, a consumer-to-consumer site popular with Gen Z and Millennials for its "pre-loved fashion." It bought the platform from online marketplace Etsy for $1.4 billion in cash.
He told Barron's that eBay Live posted another record quarter, with GMV growing by seven to eight times year-over-year across its seven markets.
For the current third quarter ending in Sept. 30, eBay estimates adjusted earnings of $1.36 to $1.42 a share on revenue of $3.07 billion to $3.12 billion. eBay expects gross merchandise volume of $22.0 billion to $22.4 billion.
Analysts expected adjusted earnings of $1.45 a share on sales of $2.996 billion.
Shares were up 0.8% on Wednesday afternoon, after closing up 1.4% at $111.15 in regular trading, in its largest percent increase since Aug. 4, and its best two-day stretch since the two days ending July 28, according to Dow Jones Market Data. Shares traded as high as $111.48 intraday, up 1.7%.
For full-year 2026, eBay is projecting revenue growth of 11% to 12% from a year ago, adjusted earnings per share to increase 10% to 12%, and gross merchandise volume to rise 11.5% to 12.5%.
eBay shares are up 27.6% this year through Wednesday's close, and up 20% over the past 12 months.
