Vice President JD Vance recalled that the last time he spoke at a convention, the late Charlie Kirk was in the stands. The two were close friends and Kirk lobbied hard for Trump to pick him as vice president in 2024.

Vance, addressing Kirk's children, said: "History will record that your father was a great man." The crowd chanted "Charlie!"

The vice president added, "Charlie spoke often to young men in particular...and he understood that there was no greater calling for a young man than falling in love, starting a family, becoming a father."
